Why we don't require mold testing first.
The :30 version. Filmed in our shop, no script.
Most mold companies make you pay for a $400–$800 mold test before they'll quote remediation. There's a reason for that, and it's not the reason they tell you.
If you can see mold on your attic sheathing, or smell it in your crawl space, you don't need a test to confirm what's already in front of you. The test will just tell you what you already know — and it'll add a week of waiting plus a charge on your card.
Testing-first makes sense in two cases: (1) symptoms with no visible source, where testing actually locates hidden mold, and (2) post-treatment verification, where it confirms the work succeeded. That's it. Pre-treatment testing for visible mold is paying for confirmation you don't need.
